7. Isola Bella - How to reach us

  • By car: Take the Autostrada dei Laghi (motorway) towards Gravellona Toce. Exit at Carpugnino and then follow signs for Stresa.

  • By boat: Isola Bella is connected to Stresa, Arona, Pallanza, Locarno, Laveno etc by the boats of the Navigazione Lago Maggiore company.     The lake is served by a number of boat companies offering regular connections to all destinations. For information please call Stresa tourist board (+39) 0323 30 150.

  • By train: Take the Ferrovie dello Stato (National Railways) Milan - Sempione line alight at Stresa station for connecting boats. Alternatively take the Ferrovie Nord (Railway), Milan - Laveno line, alighting at Laveno station, just a short distance from the boat and hydrofoil landing stage.

8. Isola Bella - Accessibility for visitors with disabilities

Isola Bella presents many barriers to wheel-chairs, before reaching the palace there are several stairs. Other stairs lead to the first floor of the palace, it contains the major part of the museum that can be visited without difficulties. Very problematic is the descent to the grottos and the gardens because of the many stairs leading to them.

  • Near the ticket office you can rent an audioguide containing a detailed high quality description of the palace and an introduction to the gardens.

  • Museum's bookshop is situated in the garden in a recently renewed tower. In the shop you will find quality postcards, guides, books and souvenirs.
